The National Environmental Guard issued 5,919 fines, totaling more than 171 million lei, in the first nine months of 2026. The value of the sanctions is nearly 49% higher than during the same period in 2025, when 4,076 fines were issued, amounting to approximately 103.6 million lei.
The results were presented at the annual meeting of the leadership of the National Environmental Guard with the heads of the county commissariats, held from 28–30 October in Vidraru, Argeș County. The rate of completion of the inspection plan rose from 88% to 90%, while the number of fines increased by approximately 35%.
The new element of the meeting was the presentation of a new performance indicator system, currently being tested and proposed for implementation starting in 2027. The evaluation is expected to take into account not only the number of inspections and sanctions, but also operators’ compliance, the upholding of fines in court, the resolution of complaints within the deadline, and the achievement of inspection objectives.
The meeting was attended by Environment Minister Natalia Intotero, representatives of the ministry, and representatives of the National Agency for the Environment and Protected Areas. The discussions also addressed the use of drones to identify pollution and illegal waste dumping, as well as the actions in Sintești, based on risk analyses and interinstitutional cooperation.
