The Electrica Group signed on Monday the contract for the development of a high-efficiency cogeneration plant in Craiova, which will use thermal engines powered by natural gas.

This plant will provide thermal energy for the centralized system of the municipality and electricity to the National Energy System. The project, designed as a flexible unit ready for hydrogen, will replace a coal-based source, reducing emissions and pollution.

With an installed electric power of 82 MW and a thermal capacity of 179 Gcal/h, the plant will also include thermal energy storage capacity. The engines will operate on natural gas, with the possibility of using hydrogen as it becomes available.

The project will be carried out in two phases, ensuring efficient production of electricity and thermal energy.
