The publication Kyiv Post reported about an unmanned aerial vehicle shot down by an F-16 fighter jet of the Romanian Air Forces in Buzău, linking the incident to a Russian airstrike on the Odesa region, where Ukrainian forces reported the presence of several drones and cruise missiles.
"At the time of the incident, the Ukrainian Air Forces announced that several drones and cruise missiles 'Banderol' (...) were detected in the Odesa region in southern Ukraine, which borders Romania," writes Kyiv Post.
The area where the drone was shot down in Buzău County was uninhabited, which allowed for intervention without risks to the population, the Ministry of Defense states.
The National Defense Ministry confirmed that the drone was detected by radar systems at 09:39, before entering Romanian airspace. Additionally, to monitor the situation, Eurofighter Typhoon aircraft from Italy and Romanian F-16s were deployed.
