On the night of Wednesday to Thursday, August 20, a drone entered the airspace of Romania, crashing in the area of the locality Grindu, Tulcea County, according to the Ministry of National Defense (MApN).
The incident was detected by the radar surveillance system of MApN, which identified several aerial objects near the border with Ukraine at 02:23.
Following the alert, two F-18 aircraft of the Spanish Air Force and an IAR-330 SOCAT helicopter of the Romanian Air Force were dispatched on a monitoring mission.
The local population was informed through the RO-Alert system at 03:20.
The drone entered national airspace at 03:21, and at 03:24 its crash was reported, causing a brief fire that extinguished itself.
The air alert was lifted at 03:52, and a team of soldiers was dispatched to the incident site to secure the area and conduct investigations.
