An object, possibly an aerial drone, fell on Friday morning in the area of Plaurul, Tulcea County, after, during the night from Thursday to Friday, the Ministry of National Defence’s radars detected drone attacks on civilian and infrastructure targets in Ukraine, near the river border with Romania.
At around 5:00 a.m., the authorities reported that the object had fallen, followed by the outbreak of a fire. According to the Ministry of National Defence, the fire caused no casualties and no material damage was recorded. A specialized emergency response vehicle from the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations and teams from the Ministry of National Defence were sent to the scene to extinguish the fire.
The area was secured, and specialized teams from the Ministry of National Defence are to determine the nature of the object and the circumstances in which it fell. The ministry states that the radar systems did not indicate any unauthorized intrusion into the national airspace during the night.
The incident comes amid several alerts regarding drones near Romania’s border. From the beginning of the year until October 2, the Ministry of National Defence reported 84 attacks in the vicinity of the border, 30 unauthorized intrusions, and four drones shot down.
