In an interview for PRESShub, the mayor of Timișoara, Dominic Fritz, addressed the challenges encountered in the process of obtaining Romanian citizenship, describing the bureaucracy as complicated and confusing. Fritz acknowledged that the citizenship interview was difficult, mentioning a question related to old legal texts that he could not answer.

He stated that a citizen born in Germany can be a Romanian patriot, explaining that love for the country can be acquired. Fritz emphasized the importance of his European identity and the experience in Timișoara, which made him feel at home. He also responded to accusations from former general Silviu Predoiu, clarifying that he does not have access to state secrets that do not pertain to his role as mayor. Fritz expects to take the citizenship oath in December.
