The DNA launched an action on Wednesday morning at the Romanian Customs Authority (AVR) and in Constanța, according to G4Media and Info Sud-Est sources. The investigation targets the activity of a network of customs officers and is coordinated by DNA prosecutors from Constanța.

Sources close to the investigation revealed that the inquiry also includes how AVR retroactively issued a mission order to justify the use of a siren by an employee who was stopped by the police.

In the past, the Constanța Customs has been the subject of DIICOT raids, being accused of tax evasion and forming criminal groups. Whistleblowers have reported an annual tax evasion of 5 billion lei in corrupt customs, including in Constanța, where favoritism towards companies involved in evasion schemes is alleged. Additionally, a group of customs officers reported the existence of a corruption network within the Constanța Customs.
