DNA Bacău has opened an in rem criminal case to investigate the procedure for awarding the contract for the Bacău–Piatra Neamț Expressway, according to confirmation sent by the National Anticorruption Directorate to Economedia. The investigation is at an early stage and concerns the tender for designing and building approximately 51 kilometers of road that will connect Piatra Neamț to the A7 Moldavia Motorway.
DNA states that, so far, it cannot confirm whether hearings have taken place and that there are no suspects or defendants in the case. The checks are being carried out amid disputes over the contract award, estimated at more than 5 billion lei.
In December 2025, CNIR named the consortium led by Danlin XXL as the winner, with an offer of approximately 5.17 billion lei excluding VAT. The offer submitted by the consortium led by Precon Transilvania was nearly 600 million lei lower but was initially rejected.
Following a final ruling by the Bucharest Court of Appeal, CNIR is reevaluating Precon's offer. The company is challenging the clarifications requested by the authority, particularly those concerning the costs and production of the beams needed for a viaduct. CNIR says it cannot provide details until the procedure is completed.
