DIICOT Transcripts: Georgescu spoke about the “mission” of exposing the system and obtaining political asylum in Italy

Transcripts from the DIICOT report concerning the proposal to arrest Călin Georgescu and Ionel Rusen reproduce conversations held by the two on May 27, 2025, in a car parked in a parking lot. The documents, obtained by Mediafax, show that the former presidential candidate spoke about his plans, the criminal cases in which he is being investigated, and judicial supervision.

According to the transcripts, Georgescu allegedly told Rusen that his “mission” had been to “expose the entire system,” including AUR leader George Simion. He claimed that the political parties had “revealed themselves” and that he had the support of the people.

In the same conversation, Georgescu stated that he intended to seek political asylum in Italy and that he needed to get out from under judicial supervision, a measure he said was “keeping him hanging.” The two also discussed identifying a villa in Tuscany. The property, valued at approximately 1.2 million euros, was also supposed to have separate buildings or outbuildings. Georgescu allegedly indicated three areas of interest, including one located near the sea. He allegedly requested “an annex intended for servants, a small house.”

The two also discussed the case arising from businessman Răzvan-Liviu Leu’s complaint, whom prosecutors claim was defrauded of approximately 1.1 million euros. Rusen stated that investigators were awaiting a response from England, considered the “key” to the case, while Georgescu maintained that there was no evidence. The content of the transcripts represents the claims made during the investigation, and inquiries are ongoing.
