The court rejected the requests and objections raised by Diana Șoșoacă and ordered the commencement of the trial in the case in which she and her former husband, Dumitru Silvestru Șoșoacă, are each accused of four offenses of unlawful deprivation of liberty. The decision may be challenged within three days of notification.
The case was sent to trial by the Prosecutor’s Office attached to the High Court of Cassation and Justice in July. The acts allegedly took place on December 10, 2021, in a law office in Bucharest, where a journalist from the Italian public television station RAI Uno had come for an interview.
According to the prosecutors, Diana Șoșoacă allegedly locked the office door, prompted by dissatisfaction with the questions asked, and four people – three victims and a witness – were allegedly prevented from leaving. In the same context, Dumitru Silvestru Șoșoacă is accused of allegedly striking a police officer and one of the people present.
The case is part of the file for which the European Parliament lifted Diana Șoșoacă’s immunity. The accusations concerning Legionnaire propaganda were severed and are being investigated separately.
