Efforts to maintain the operation of reactor 2 at Cernavodă continue, after two days of failed attempts due to extremely strong currents.

On Friday night, two of the four barges were sunk to redirect a larger volume of water towards the nuclear power plant. This complex operation will continue today, with the aim of extending the reactor's operation by up to three days. The interim Minister of Transport, Radu Miruță, arrived on site to assess the situation, mentioning that the measures are proposed by specialists from the Romanian Waters.

The technical director of Nuclearelectrica, Emil Macovei, explained that, due to previous measures, a slight increase in water level is expected, which could allow the reactor to operate for a few additional days. The barges are positioned diagonally against the current to create artificial thresholds, thus facilitating the redirection of water towards the old branch of the Danube.

The main objective of the intervention is to increase the water level in the Cernavodă area, essential for the optimal functioning of the nuclear power plant.
