On the occasion of Romania's National Day, swimmer David Popovici posted an emotional message on social media, stating: "Happy birthday, Romania! Proud to represent you!". This year has been exceptional for him, achieving remarkable results at international competitions.

At the stage in Singapore, Popovici won the gold medal in the 100 and 200 meter freestyle events, managing to match his performances from 2022. Additionally, in the 100 meter freestyle event, he set a new European record, with an impressive time of 46.51 seconds, thus solidifying his status as one of Romania's best athletes.
