The liquidator CITR announced on Wednesday, May 6, that the Damen Mangalia shipyard will carry out collective layoffs due to bankruptcy and the inability to continue operations. A total of 1,011 people will be affected, and the layoffs will take place in two stages.
The first stage targets 740 employees, with notice between May 27 and June 24, while the second stage will affect 271 employees, with notice between June 18 and July 15. Compensation for employees varies based on seniority, reaching up to nine average gross salaries for those with over 21 years of service. Employee representatives and the leader of the Navalist union expressed hope that the layoff decision will be postponed until after the liquidation procedure is completed, awaiting a new investor. Consultations with employees are ongoing to clarify the situation.
