Damen Holding BV, the main creditor and the 49% shareholder in Damen Shipyards Mangalia, challenged in court the modification of the sale procedure, following a decision by the Constanța Tribunal on September 7. The appeal concerned the switch to a declining-price sale (starting at 184 million euros), instead of the strategy previously approved involving six monthly auctions at the same price.
At the same time, union representatives warned that the legal proceedings could delay the resumption of production and the takeover by a new investor, jeopardizing the shipyard and the contracts at stake. The dispute is taking place against the backdrop of the company entering insolvency on June 19, 2024, and its subsequent bankruptcy.
