Romania officially proposed the candidacy of Dacian Cioloș for the position of Secretary General of the Francophonie for the term 2027-2030, announcing this on Thursday through a message on Facebook. Cioloș expressed his honor for this nomination and emphasized the importance of his commitment to promoting a more pragmatic and useful Francophonie for citizens. He thanked the President of Romania, Nicușor Dan, for his support in this endeavor.
Cioloș highlighted that the International Organization of Francophonie is at a turning point, having the potential to become a space for concrete action in areas such as employment, education, and entrepreneurship. He also emphasized that the French language represents not only a cultural heritage but also a language of opportunities and cooperation. The announcement of the candidacy was initially made by Nicușor Dan on March 26, on the occasion of the International Day of Francophonie.
