Former deputy secretary general of the Government Cristina Trăilă was questioned Friday at the National Anticorruption Directorate in Iași and confirmed that she had been charged in the case involving Vaslui businessman Fănel Bogos. She says it concerns the same offense for which she had previously been a suspect and maintains that witness statements and documents submitted by the defense are helping to establish the truth.
The questioning lasted approximately 30 minutes. Trăilă is being investigated for complicity in the use of influence or authority to obtain money or other undue benefits. Prosecutors claim that she supported the efforts of former PNL Vaslui leader Mihai Barbu to replace the director of the Vaslui Sanitary Veterinary and Food Safety Directorate with a person favored by Bogos.
Cristina Trăilă resigned from her government position on August 26 and maintained her innocence. She stated that the case has no criminal connection to Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan, who was questioned as a witness. European Parliament member Rareș Bogdan and the heads of the Vaslui and Botoșani county councils have also been questioned in the case. Fănel Bogos is accused of instigating blackmail and influence peddling.
