The former president of ANPC, Cristian Popescu Piedone, has definitively escaped the measure of judicial control, after the Brașov Court of Appeal rejected the appeal filed by DNA. The decision was made on April 1, 2026, with the court establishing that there are no longer grounds for maintaining the preventive measure.
The Brașov Tribunal previously decided, on March 27, 2026, that the measure of judicial control is not necessary, considering that the conditions for restrictions are no longer met. In this context, the court mentioned that the judicial costs advanced by the state remain the responsibility of Piedone.
The criminal case in which Piedone is being judged was opened by DNA in the summer of 2025, being accused of disclosing confidential information to an economic operator. Although the judicial control has been revoked, the criminal process continues, and Piedone is no longer subject to the previously imposed restrictions.
