The case concerning the explosions in Crevedia, which left six people dead and 54 injured, may enter the trial on the merits stage, more than three years after the tragedy of August 26, 2023. On Monday, October 12, the Răcari District Court ordered the start of the trial and rejected the defense’s requests to exclude certain pieces of evidence or return the case file to the prosecutors.
Ionuț-Daniel Doldurea and Cosmin-Ionuț Stîngă, the administrators of Flagas SRL, as well as the company, legally represented by Dan-Constantin Joița, will answer before the court. They are accused of negligent destruction resulting in a disaster, as well as violating occupational safety and health regulations.
The pre-trial chamber judge ruled that the indictment drawn up by the Prosecutor General’s Office in June 2024 and the evidence collected, including the expert reports by INEC and INSEMEX, the report of the Dâmbovița Emergency Situations Inspectorate and the intercepted communications, comply with legal requirements. However, the referral of two articles of the Code of Criminal Procedure to the Constitutional Court was admitted, without suspending the trial.
The court maintained the seizures imposed on the defendants’ assets. The victims are seeking compensation of approximately 53.3 million euros and 516,000 lei. The explosions destroyed eight homes and damaged another 80. According to investigators, operations allegedly continued at Flagas’s place of business, even though it no longer had an operating permit. The decision may be challenged within three days.
