Works on the Tigveni-Curtea de Argeș section of the Sibiu-Pitești Highway have reached the final stage, with the Austrian contractor PORR completing approximately 95% of the project. The 9.86-kilometer stretch could be opened to traffic in 2026, six months ahead of the contractual deadline.
The Momaia tunnel, with a length of 1.35 kilometers, is nearly finished, and mechanical and electrical equipment is being installed. It will benefit from modern safety systems, including smoke detection and evacuation of people in case of emergency.
In the coming months, tests will be conducted to verify the equipment. Various infrastructure elements are being worked on along the route, including 12 bridges and passages. Once this section is opened, drivers will be able to travel on 54 kilometers of the total 122 kilometers of the highway, a crucial project for road infrastructure in Romania.
Funding is provided through the Transport Program 2021-2027, and the contractual value of section 4 is 1.678 billion lei, excluding VAT.
