The new head of the National House of Public Pensions, Vasilica-Valentina Robu, rejects claims that 2.2 million pensions were calculated incorrectly, saying the figure resulted from extrapolating the findings of a sample audit. She made the clarification in a video message published on the institution’s Facebook page, following the publication of information based on data from the Court of Accounts’ report.
Robu says that 2.2 million files were not individually checked and that the figure mentioned does not represent pensions confirmed as having been calculated incorrectly. According to her, audits examine samples of files, and any errors identified are extrapolated to the entire category under review.
The CNPP chief explained that, in 2024, approximately 3.7 million people received old-age pensions. During an audit, a few dozen files may be checked on a sample basis, and identifying problems in several cases does not mean that all pensions in the respective category are incorrect.
The Court of Accounts’ audit covers the CNPP’s entire activity, including its financial, legal, internal audit and human resources components, not just pension files. An audit mission generally lasts between four and six months.
Robu says the institution checks all reported cases and that, where discrepancies are confirmed, pensioners will receive their entitlements retroactively, from the date on which they became due. She says the errors identified were generally for small amounts.
