Prosecutor Claudiu Sandu criticizes Nicușor Dan’s visit to the SCM: “I thought he would take the bull by the horns. But instead, nothing”

Former vice president of the Superior Council of Magistracy, prosecutor Claudiu Sandu criticized President Nicușor Dan’s presence at Thursday’s CSM plenary meeting, saying that the head of state did not address the real problems facing the justice system. In a message published on Facebook and titled “About Nothing,” Sandu wrote: “I thought he would take the bull by the horns. Instead, nothing.”

Nicușor Dan attended a CSM plenary meeting for the first time and stayed for approximately ten minutes. He said he was interested in the first item on the agenda, concerning the appointment of prosecutors for cases involving magistrates. The president asked the prosecutor general questions and invited Council members to engage in dialogue three times, but they remained silent.

The only magistrate to speak was CSM Vice President Bogdan Staicu, who pointed to a lack of resources. Sandu considered the move useless and argued that the structure investigating offenses committed by magistrates is ineffective.
