The general mayor of the Capital, Ciprian Ciucu, stated that he assumes the opening of approximately 50 construction sites in Bucharest, emphasizing that he prefers to be sworn at for doing work rather than being criticized for inaction.
Ciucu mentioned that he intends to run for a new term, needing ten years to rehabilitate the city. Among the priority projects are the rehabilitation of the 50-year-old tram lines, which cause damage to the recent trams.
Of the 50 construction sites, 12 target the tram lines, while the rest focus on the heating network and other infrastructure works. The mayor explained that some construction sites will be completed this year, while others, which require complex work, will take longer, but are essential for the long-term sustainability of the infrastructure.
Ciucu emphasized that the volume of work in Bucharest is unprecedented since 1989, comparing it to the construction period during communism: "So much has been built in Bucharest since the communists built the dormitory blocks. That was when work was done at this level."
