The Ministry of Culture reported that the condition of the Reformed Church in Cehu Silvaniei has significantly deteriorated, and the cracking of the masonry was worse than previous estimates. The removal of the plaster revealed major structural issues, which led to an immediate halt of the works.
On February 3, dust and mortar fragments were observed leaking, and preventive measures included stopping the use of the bells and diverting nearby traffic. Despite efforts to support the structure, the tower collapsed shortly after monitoring witnesses indicated accelerated deterioration. Representatives from several institutions were present to analyze the situation and find solutions. A team from the National Heritage Institute conducted a 3D scan of the monument for technical expertise, and recent archaeological excavations were carried out without intervention at the level of the tower.
