The Constitutional Court of Romania (CCR) has decided to annul the Parliament's resolutions regarding the Boards of Administration of Romanian Television (TVR) and the Romanian Radio Broadcasting Society (SRR), thus obliging Parliament to initiate the procedure for appointing new boards. The CCR's decision does not have retroactive effects, and the annulment of the resolutions does not affect the decisions already made by the management of the institutions. AUR challenged at the CCR the way the seats in the boards were distributed, accusing that the political configuration of Parliament was not respected.
Although AUR has a larger parliamentary weight, it received the same number of seats as UDMR, but fewer than PNL and USR. As a sign of protest, AUR parliamentarians left the plenary session, accusing the governing coalition of control over public television and radio. The CCR followed previous jurisprudence, invoking Decision no. 417/2014, which emphasizes the importance of respecting the law in appointments to the boards of administration.
