Cărturești announced that it is dealing with a cybersecurity incident that began on the evening of October 22, as a result of which the carturesti.ro website and several services in its bookstores have become temporarily unavailable. The company has taken some systems offline as a precaution and is conducting checks together with external specialists.
So far, there are no indications that user data has been accessed or exfiltrated, but the investigation is ongoing. Payment card data cannot be affected, as it is not stored or processed in Cărturești’s systems. The company says it has informed the competent authorities and is cooperating with them.
The incident affects the use of vouchers and gift cards, the loyalty program, invoice generation, stock checks, and the placing of orders in bookstores or through delivery platforms. Cash and card payments are working normally, while orders already placed will be delivered once the systems are restored.
Vouchers and gift cards remain valid, and the validity period of vouchers will be extended until the end of December. Cărturești recommends changing the password upon the first login after access to the platform is restored and says it will provide further updates.
