The judges from the Sector 1 Court decided on Thursday to extend the judicial control measure for another 60 days in the case of Călin Georgescu, a former candidate for the 2024 presidential elections, accused of legionary propaganda.
The court rejected the request to revoke the preventive measure, maintaining it for a maximum period of 60 days. The decision is not final and can be contested within 48 hours.
The former presidential candidate was greeted by his supporters with flowers at the Sector 1 Court, as March 26 was his birthday.
Georgescu is being tried for charges that include promoting fascist, legionary, racist, and xenophobic ideas, as well as the cult of individuals convicted of serious crimes.
The trial has been postponed to April 28, and until then, the judicial control measure remains in effect.
Additionally, he is involved in another case, accused of complicity in an attempted coup.
