Interim Environment Minister Diana Buzoianu presented on Sunday new findings from an inspection carried out by the ministry’s Control Body at the National Meteorological Administration (ANM). According to her, the institution allegedly made direct purchases worth millions of lei over the past four years, in breach of public procurement legislation.
Among the examples cited were the purchase of toner cartridges through direct award, worth more than 400,000 lei in 2023, 710,000 lei in 2024 and 570,000 lei in 2025. Buzoianu also mentioned direct contracts for laptops and computers worth 850,000 lei in 2023, as well as the purchase of furniture worth more than 1.5 million lei in 2024.
The minister said that two companies, Euroserv Copy Consult SRL and Euro Data Concept SRL, had won the contracts under review almost continuously. She again called for the resignation of Elena Mateescu, ANM’s director general since December 2016.
The new accusations come after an inspection covering 2025 and 2026 allegedly identified purchases of underwear, perfumes, clothes, cosmetics, pajamas and other goods paid for with the institution’s funds. Mateescu said she learned about these purchases during the inspections.
