The head of the National Meteorological Administration announces that the employees targeted in the procurement case no longer work at the institution, and the loss will be recovered

The people who used ANM cards for the purchases targeted in the Control Body’s report no longer work at the institution, the director general of the National Meteorological Administration, Elena Mateescu, said on Tuesday. She specified that ANM will recover the loss and that those responsible will be held accountable regardless of their position.

According to the head of ANM, the report identified, at the beginning of 2025, 68 reimbursements worth 510,642 lei, carried out without following procedures and without management approval. In 2026, another 22 reimbursements, worth 266,269 lei, were allegedly prepared under the same conditions.

Mateescu announced that, on August 12, she notified the Economic Investigations and Economic Crime Division, submitting a 648-page file. She stated that she was questioned twice by the Economic Brigade and that a committee had been established within ANM to inventory the purchases and recover the loss.

The case became public after former Environment Minister Diana Buzoianu announced that the checks had identified expenses for perfumes, clothing items, cosmetics, and other goods, calling for the resignation of ANM’s management. The report is to be sent to the Prosecutor’s Office and the Court of Accounts.
