A study conducted by MattressNextDay identified Rome as the European destination with the most complaints related to bed bugs and dirty beds, with 31.37 complaints for every 1,000 reviews. Bucharest is at the top of this ranking, alongside other cities such as Kavos and Athens. Analyzing 12.9 million hotel reviews from 59 European destinations, researchers highlighted the risks posed by bed bugs, which can be brought home without tourists realizing it. Martin Seeley, CEO of the company, emphasized that infestations can spread quickly, with females able to lay between 200 and 500 eggs in two months. Among the top cities are also Amsterdam, Paris, and Brussels. The expert recommends that tourists check mattresses, bed frames, and nearby furniture to avoid infestations.
