To mark Freedom 250, the U.S. Embassy in Bucharest announced a lighting program for some iconic buildings in the city, transforming them into symbols of American-Romanian friendship. The initiative is part of the Embassy's public diplomacy, aimed at bringing the spirit of American independence to the Romanian people and strengthening the partnership between the United States and Romania. The program was launched on June 24, 2026, and will run until July 4, with monuments such as the Victoria Palace, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Romanian National Opera, and the Romanian Athenaeum illuminated in the colors of the American flag. U.S. Ambassador Darryl Nirenberg emphasized the importance of this celebration and thanked Romanian partners for their support. The Embassy expects that other buildings will join this initiative, creating a memorable visual experience.
