Ilie Bolojan commemorates those killed in the September 11 attacks and reaffirms Romania’s solidarity with the United States

Acting Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan conveyed a message on Friday, September 11, 2026, commemorating the victims of the terrorist attacks in the United States, which took place 25 years ago. In a Facebook post, he reaffirmed Romania’s solidarity with the American people and stressed the importance of preserving the values threatened by the 2001 attacks.

“Today, we commemorate those who lost their lives in the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. Twenty-five years later, the memory of what happened remains alive,” Ilie Bolojan said.

The acting prime minister said the attacks demonstrated how quickly things considered commonplace—such as freedom, security and trust between people and countries—can change. He argued that these values must be cherished and protected through everyone’s responsibility.

“Romania stands with the United States and the American people on this day of remembrance,” Bolojan also said. The September 11, 2001 attacks targeted the World Trade Center in New York and the Pentagon, and nearly 3,000 people lost their lives. The event profoundly changed international security policy and strengthened cooperation between the United States and its allies.
