Bucharest has for the first time adopted a dedicated bicycle lanes strategy with the approval of the Velo Masterplan by the General Council. This initiative will create a modern infrastructure network for cyclists, connecting residential areas with jobs, education and commerce. By 2035, 150 km of primary routes and 415 km of secondary routes, with essential facilities, are planned. All future investments will have to comply with this plan in order to obtain permits.
