On the morning of April 17, border police in Giurgiu conducted a check on a van registered in Bulgaria, driven by a 45-year-old man. The action took place on DN5, as part of operations to combat cross-border crime.

Following the checks, three pallets loaded with bulk tobacco leaves were discovered, lacking legal documents of origin, weighing a total of 1,003.5 kilograms, valued at approximately 100,350 lei. The goods were confiscated and stored in the Evidence Room of the Giurgiu Territorial Border Police Service. A criminal case was opened against the driver for the production of excise goods, according to the Tax Code. The Border Police continue investigations and collaborate with other institutions to prevent illegal acts at the border.
