The 13-year-old student from Bistrița who stabbed his mathematics teacher reportedly wrote an online manifesto of approximately 60 pages before the attack, in which he described his plans and expressed racist, antisemitic, homophobic, Islamophobic and misogynistic views. The document was published on social media and is being examined as part of the investigation.

According to information reported by the local press and Observator News, the boy claimed he had been the victim of bullying and said he intended to attack several classmates. He reportedly told investigators that he had been planning for about eight months to kill a classmate of Roma ethnicity. In the manifesto, the child wrote that he had largely adopted his extremist ideas from the internet and that he admired authors of mass attacks.

During the summer holiday, police officers held an anti-bullying course in his classroom. An officer reportedly noticed his behavior, but the homeroom teacher said the student was not considered problematic. The attack subsequently took place, and the school reopened after three days under police supervision, with psychological support provided to students.

The boy is hospitalized at the Child Psychiatry Clinic in Cluj-Napoca. The investigation into attempted aggravated murder is ongoing, but as he is under 14, he is not criminally liable. The assaulted teachers and students have been granted protection orders, while authorities are examining measures concerning school violence, online radicalization and the criminal liability of minors.

Context: the investigation also focused on premeditation, as well as the publication of images from the attack in Bistrița

Before the incident that was the subject of the accusation, investigators indicated that the 13-year-old student may have acted with premeditation: he allegedly came from home with a pocketknife, a balaclava, a military-style helmet, and gloves, got dressed in the school bathroom, and then went toward the room where he had targeted the fellow student who became the victim. Prosecutors also said that the teenager showed no remorse and that, in the place where he prepared, investigators found messages in English and Legionary and far-right symbols, without yet being able to confirm a process of radicalization.

Separately, after footage captured by surveillance cameras reached the public domain, police officers in Bistrița-Năsăud opened a criminal case for disclosing non-public data. At the same time, the police issued extended provisional protection orders, with electronic monitoring, for the attacked teacher and for other students targeted in the context of the incident, so that the measures would be observed throughout the checks.
