The Minister of Transport, Ciprian Șerban, announced the submission of two bids in the framework of the tender for the design and execution of the Fast Danube 2 project, an investment estimated at approximately 170 million euros, which aims to revitalize the Romanian-Bulgarian sector of the Danube over a distance of 470 kilometers. The contract is expected to be signed no later than July 2026, after the evaluation of the bids.
The project includes works such as dredging 110 km of navigable channel, construction of groins and jetties, bank stabilization, and the creation of an artificial island, with the aim of increasing the navigation period to 340 days a year and increasing the volume of goods transported on the river by approximately 20%.
