BBC announced the launch of its Romanian language service on June 23, which will include a website and accounts on social media platforms such as Facebook and Instagram. This new project is part of the expansion of BBC World Service in Central and Eastern Europe, aiming to provide news and analysis on topics relevant to the audience in Romania and Moldova, including wars, politics, health, technology, and climate change.
BBC will use artificial intelligence-based translation tools, but the content will be editorially verified by journalists. Editorial coordination will be ensured by Kateryna Khinkulova. BBC had a Romanian language editorial team until 2008, when it decided to close the office after 68 years of operation.
