Former president Traian Băsescu harshly criticized Călin Georgescu, labeling him a "talented charlatan." Băsescu explained that the success of Georgescu's speech is due to the fact that many Romanians do not understand its content, considering it a false speech that, if put into practice, would not work. Băsescu emphasized that not all politicians can do what Georgescu does: "It's a matter of talent. So you can either be talented or a charlatan. He is both." Călin Georgescu is under judicial control and is being tried for serious charges, including legionary propaganda and attempted coup d'état, being involved in cases concerning crimes against the constitutional order.
