Băsescu says that Călin Georgescu’s voters remain loyal under any circumstances: “He has won over a segment of the electorate that neither Simion, nor Peiu, nor Dungaciu will take”

Former President Traian Băsescu says that none of the AUR leaders will succeed in taking over Călin Georgescu’s electorate after the former presidential candidate was detained by DIICOT prosecutors. The statement was made on Monday evening on B1 TV, in the context of the criminal investigation in which Georgescu is being investigated.

Băsescu argued that Georgescu has formed his own electoral segment, which will not be transferred to George Simion, Adrian Peiu, Dungaciu, or other representatives of the party. The former head of state said that “what Georgescu loses will be lost for good,” without another AUR leader benefiting from this support.

“As for Georgescu, I suspect you don’t suspect me—I labeled him a charlatan from the very beginning; he was a charlatan, and he will remain a charlatan, so it will be difficult for him to transfer his charlatanism as an inheritance to someone else from AUR. Surely, someone like Peiu may hope that he can inherit something from Georgescu. It won’t be so! Georgescu has his own electorate; he won a segment of the electorate that neither Simion, nor Peiu, nor Dungaciu, nor these turncoats who have gathered around Simion will take. I believe that what Georgescu loses will be lost for good, and no one else will recover it,” Traian Băsescu said on Monday evening on B1 TV.
