The Deputy Prime Minister Tánczos Barna stated that the austerity measures adopted in the last year have affected demand and consumption, but are not sufficient to resolve Romania's economic crisis. He emphasized that the critical moment was the end of 2024, when he took over the Ministry of Finance, and stated that no macroeconomic crisis can be solved solely through spending cuts.
Barna acknowledged that the social democrats were right to insist on economic stimulus measures, which must be implemented in parallel with budgetary discipline. He also rejected the idea that the current economic problems were caused solely by recent measures, emphasizing that the situation was not perfect before December 2024.
