AUR lawmakers protested in Parliament over Călin Georgescu being questioned by DIICOT

AUR MPs protested on Monday, during the plenary session of the Chamber of Deputies, against the way the authorities treated former presidential candidate Călin Georgescu, brought to DIICOT for questioning in a fraud case.

The lawmakers gathered in front of the rostrum holding signs that read “Stop the political police!” AUR MP Dan Tanasă accused the authorities of “harassing” Georgescu and of allegedly fabricating criminal cases without evidence. He also criticized the searches carried out at the former candidate’s home and the fact that he was picked up from traffic.

Session chair Natalia Intotero cut off the microphone of AUR leader George Simion, to whom she also conveyed a “Happy birthday” wish. Despite this, Dan Tanasă continued speaking without a microphone for several minutes. At the request of the session chair, the quaestors intervened, and Intotero announced that the AUR lawmakers were leaving the chamber.

USR MP Cezar Mihail Drăgoescu criticized the protest, accusing the party of turning Parliament into a “circus” and using the incident for “political marketing.”
