ANSVSA suspended operations at the facility in Brukenthal Palace and imposed a fine following suspicions of food poisoning

The National Sanitary Veterinary and Food Safety Authority (ANSVSA) suspended the activity of the establishment within Brukenthal Palace in Avrig and imposed a fine of 30,000 lei after, on September 26, 2026, several people reported symptoms indicative of possible food poisoning during a private event.

Approximately 80 people attended the party. Thirty received medical assistance, while 20 were transported to hospital for examinations, including one minor. Another nine people refused transport.

Inspectors from the Sibiu Directorate for Sanitary Veterinary and Food Safety (DSVSA) inspected the areas where the food was prepared and served, collected samples, and ordered the suspension of the establishment's activity. The measure was taken after identifying deficiencies concerning hygiene, the sale and use of certain food products without identification details, as well as the improper maintenance of production and storage areas.

ANSVSA states that, at this stage, this is a suspected case of collective food poisoning.

The cause of the incident and any possible connection with the food consumed will be established after the epidemiological investigation and laboratory analyses have been completed. The authority announces that it will communicate the relevant results of the investigations.
