Authorities in Sibiu activated the Red Plan in Avrig after 11 people reported symptoms of food poisoning

Authorities in Sibiu County activated the Red Plan for emergency response on Saturday evening at an event venue in the town of Avrig, after several participants reported symptoms indicative of possible food poisoning. Nine emergency response crews were mobilized at the scene to assess those affected and manage the situation.

At the initial stage of the response, 11 people with acute symptoms were taken for medical evaluation. The crews were to determine whether they needed to be transported to hospitals in the county.

The response is being carried out through an integrated operation by the Inspectorate for Emergency Situations and the Sibiu County Ambulance Service. Three SMURD crews, one of them with a doctor, five ambulance crews from the Sibiu County Ambulance Service, and a specialized vehicle for transporting personnel and multiple casualties were dispatched to the event venue.

To increase available resources, three additional Sibiu ambulance crews that were on the day shift were kept on alert and prepared to intervene if the situation worsened. The exact cause of the illness will be determined following medical evaluations and checks by the authorities.
