The National Authority for Consumer Protection (ANPC) announced the permanent withdrawal from sale of approximately 140 tons of sugar, after inspections conducted on March 10, 2026, identified significant discrepancies between the declared net quantity and the actual quantity. These differences, which exceeded 70 grams per package, resulted in an estimated damage of 30,000 lei for consumers.
As part of this action, 271 economic operators were checked, resulting in 456 contraventional fines totaling over 2.84 million lei, 110 warnings, and 11 measures for the temporary cessation of service provision. ANPC emphasizes that these unfair commercial practices mislead consumers and affect their rights, reaffirming its commitment to protect the economic interests of consumers.
