ANPC has fined six petrol stations between 100,000 and 500,000 lei after inspectors found that fuel prices had been increased several times on the same day. Inspections are taking place nationwide, as the price of standard petrol has reached as much as 9.70 lei per litre, while diesel exceeds 10.10 lei at numerous stations.

ANPC President Bekesi Csaba Lajos stated that distributors may raise prices only once per day, before noon. A simple warning cannot be issued for violating this rule, and fines start at 100,000 lei.

Inspectors are focusing particularly on independent petrol stations, as well as the commercial markups applied by operators over the past three months. These are being compared with the average recorded in 2025 to identify any unjustified increases in margins.

Inspections were intensified following the rise in international quotations and the renewed concerns over supply, amid attacks in the Strait of Hormuz. The Competition Council is also examining the commercial markups of the petrol stations under investigation. ANPC is urging consumers to notify the authorities when they observe price increases considered excessive.$$slug_placeholder$$
