The commissioners of the National Authority for Consumer Protection (ANPC) conducted checks at 573 non-banking financial institutions (IFNs), finding irregularities at 326 of them. Fines totaling 1.47 million lei were imposed for unfair commercial practices, including excessive interest rates and misleading clauses. The ANPC decided to refund the amounts collected illegally to affected consumers and imposed measures to correct the deficiencies.
Additionally, consumers are advised to carefully analyze the contractual conditions and to exercise their legal rights, including the possibility of requesting a cap on interest rates for contracts prior to the date of 11.11.2024. The ANPC emphasizes the importance of choosing the correct repayment method and renegotiating contractual conditions in case of financial difficulties.
