Paul Anghel, the general director of the National Authority for Consumer Protection (ANPC), reacted vehemently to the statements made by Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan regarding the reorganization of the institution and staff reductions. Anghel characterized this proposal as a "simplistic and dangerous approach," emphasizing that ANPC plays an essential role in protecting the life, health, and economic interests of consumers.

With a staff of just over 300 commissioners, ANPC managed a significant number of complaints in 2024 and imposed considerable fines, halting the sale of non-compliant products worth over 34.8 million lei. The director of ANPC warned that staff reductions would lead to a decrease in the number of inspections, which could increase the number of non-compliant products on the market. Additionally, Anghel criticized the lack of transparency in sanctioning economic operators, questioning whether this is a consequence of the reorganization plan proposed by the government.
