Spoofing, a technique for falsifying the identity of the caller, has led to an increase in fraudulent calls using real phone numbers. ANCOM has received many complaints from users whose numbers have been misused. Following consultations with the authorities, ANCOM decided to block calls from outside Romania that display false national landline phone numbers; however, this measure does not apply to mobile calls. Experts recommend that users inform their telephone providers and contact the authorities for protection.
