The process by which ANAF attempts to recover approximately one million euros from former president Klaus Iohannis will be judged at the Hunedoara Tribunal, after the Alba Iulia Court of Appeal accepted the request for the transfer of the tax institution.
This decision comes after the Sibiu Tribunal rejected, at the end of last year, ANAF's request to impose a lien on Iohannis's assets, in order to recover a debt of 4.7 million lei. ANAF requested the transfer of the case citing suspicions of impartiality and risks of local pressure on the court. ANAF's action aims to compel Klaus Iohannis to pay the rent collected for a property in Sibiu, which has reverted to state ownership. The Hunedoara Tribunal will decide whether the former president must pay the debt established by ANAF, which also includes interest and penalties.
