ANAF has initiated enforcement proceedings against Sorin Oprescu, former mayor of Bucharest, who cannot justify the amount of 500,000 lei. As a result of this action, Oprescu has also lost the villa in Herăstrău.

The Bucharest Court of Appeal has been notified by the Tax Authority to continue legal proceedings. Meanwhile, the High Court of Cassation and Justice (ÎCCJ) has rejected the appeal for cassation filed by Oprescu, thus maintaining the sentence of 10 years and 8 months in prison for corruption offenses. The former mayor is currently in Greece, where local authorities have refused to extradite him, rejecting the second extradition request from the Romanian state.
