Starting from March 14, 2026, CFR Călători will introduce two new Alstom electric trains that will provide direct connections between Bucharest North and Timișoara North. Train IR 16021 will depart from Bucharest at 11:20 and will arrive in Timișoara at 23:12, while IR 16023 will make the reverse journey, departing from Timișoara at 09:09 and arriving in Bucharest at 21:11.

These routes are part of a broader program to modernize rail transport, aimed at improving travel conditions and expanding the railway network in Romania. The 12 Alstom electric trains, assigned through a public service contract, will also operate on other main routes, thus contributing to increasing the attractiveness of rail transport. The Railway Reform Authority completed the handover of the last vehicle from this batch to CFR Călători on March 5, 2026.
